“Love the Way You Lie” is a song by American rapper Eminem from his seventh studio album, Recovery (2010). It was released by Interscope-Geffen-A&M on August 9, 2010, as the second single from the album. The song features vocals from Barbadian recording artist Rihanna. According to her, its effect is attributed to its theme of domestic violence, a topic many people are not aware of. In the midtempo hip hop song, Eminem raps angrily over an acoustic guitar and a piano from the point of view of someone in a love–hate relationship. Rihanna sings over an electric guitar and a piano in a softer and sad voice. Journalists have suggested that Eminem references his ex-wife Kimberly Scott.
